NO REFEREES WILL BE SUSPENDED IN CREAMLINE-PETRO GAZZ MATCH

MANILA, Philippines: Premier Volleyball League (PVL) commissioner Sherwin Malonzo cleared no referees will be suspended that were involved in the so-called "controversial call" in Creamline vs. Petro Gazz semifinals match last Thursday, May 2.

Instead, the PVL referees will be re-assigned and will not officiate in the remaining games of the conference.

"They are re-assigned, will lay low in PVL, and will be assigned in different leagues," Malonzo told the press.

Amid the circulating allegations in social media with regard to the suspension of the referees involved, Malonzo made it clear that the referees will not be suspended since they are "just doing their job."

"What we did is that we re-assigned the referees, there are posts in social media that circulated that there is a suspension, but there is no suspension. We have a pool of referees and right now where the issue is still on heat we re-assigned them. For the line judge, we do not have to suspend him since he is just doing his job, he just called a check ball in a 25-all match. I do not think it is right to suspend anybody, we will just reassign them."

The video of the said play made an uproar in the social media with first referee Bobby Celso's call on Alyssa Valdez's spike, on which he called it outside, then later followed the linesman judge call ball touch and then reversed the call.

In a crucial set and with Petro Gazz no challenges left, the Angels were left to argue verbally and fans started protesting.

"Of course, there is an uproar and it was also timed that Petro Gazz has no challenges, Petro cannot challenge the check ball."

Petro Gazz absorbed defeat at the hands of Creamline, 27-25, 23-25, 27-25, 26-24, in the semifinals.
