CHERY TIGGO SCORES 7TH STRAIGHT WIN TO SECURE SEMIS SPOT

MANILA, Philippines: Chery Tiggo outplayed Galeries Tower in five sets, 26-24, 23-25, 19-25, 25-12, 15-9, to end the preliminary round with seven consecutive wins and book a semifinals ticket in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Thursday, April 25.

Chery Tiggo (9-2) will join Choco Mucho (9-2), Petro Gazz (8-2), and Creamline (8-2) in the final four.

Tied at two sets apiece, Chery Tiggo rallied to take the upper hand in the fifth set at 10-5 capped by a kill block of Czarina Carandang.

Chery Tiggo then pulled a 3-2 run to take match point courtesy of Carandang and two errors by the Highrisers for a 14-7.

The Galeries showed heart as Andrea Marzan blocked Carandang's attempt, and Shola Alvarez slammed a power kill to stay alive in the fifth frame, 14-9.

But it all ended swiftly as Alvarez made a costly service error to hand the Chery Tiggo the victory.

Alina Bicar was named Player of the Game after making 16 excellent sets and scoring four points.

Eya Laure, meanwhile, led the scoring for Chery Tiggo and registered a triple-double performance of 20 points (15 attacks and five blocks), 18 excellent receptions, and 11 excellent digs.

Ara Galang also showed her attacking prowess after chipping in 13 points as Mylene Paat added nine points.

Carandang, Aby Maraño, and Cess Robles scored seven points apiece for the Crossovers.

The Highrisers were led by France Ronquillo who scored 15 points, while Andrea Marzan, and Norielle Ipac added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Galeries ended their season with a 3-8 win-loss slate, an improvement compared to their 1-10 finish in the last conference.
