MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala dropped to 73rd in the latest Women's Tennis Association (WTA) rankings released on Monday.
Eala's descent from a career-best 69th in the rankings came after she suffered early elimination in her Grand Slam debut at Roland Garros and at the Birmingham Open.
Eala fell to Colombian Emiliana Arango, 0-6, 6-2, 3-6, in the first round of the French Open on May 25.
The 20-year-old got the early boot once more against Linda Fruhvirtová, 5-7, 6-7(7), 1-6, at the Birmingham Open first round on June 4.
The day before that, Eala likewise bowed out in the doubles division of the tournament.
The Philippine bet and her Swiss partner Rebeka Masarova fell to the second-seeded Aussie tandem of Ellen Perez and Storm Hunter, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round.
The aforementioned quick exits dropped Eala by four rungs after holding on to the 69th rank for three weeks.
Eala may pad her ranking up anew, though, as she is set to compete at the Lexus Ilkley Open.
The lefty Eala is seeded no. 1 in the tournament and will face her first round opponent from the qualifying rounds.
